Vodafone is offering 30-days of free unlimited mobile data to select customers, so they’re able to keep in touch with friends and family over the festive period. The offer, which kickstarted on December 1, will be available to 200,000 customers who are currently on a pay monthly contract with the mobile carrier.

After the 200,000 spots are taken, the promotion will end – so if you’re in need of an unlimited amount of 4G and 5G mobile data to use VOIP, video call, and chat apps like WhatsApp and Messenger to keep in touch with friends and family over the Christmas season, you’ll better be quick. To enter the competition, you need to launch the Vodafone app and head to the VeryMe tab.

The last date to enter for the 30-days of free data is December 21, Vodafone told us, however, we’d be surprised if the allocation hadn’t already been snatched up by that point.

Vodafone says it decided to launch this competition after witnessing how vital technology has been in keeping friends and family in close contact over the last year. Due to the ongoing public health crisis, millions around the globe were told to stay at home to work, study and socialise with friends and family in a desperate bid to stop the spread of the airborne virus.

Videoconferencing applications, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, have seen a huge spike in users, while streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix have enjoyed enormous success as people stayed inside.

With unlimited free data, which allows Vodafone customers to stream, download and upload over a mobile data connection – either 3G, 4G or the next-generation speedier 5G – without any caps on the amount of data used. So, whether you’re downloading a must-binge boxset from NOW TV before a long train journey to visit family on Christmas day, video calling with relatives overseas to watch them tear open their presents, or do some last-minute shopping on-the-move, don’t expect any bills for the amount of mobile internet you’d used throughout December.

Nick Jeffery, Vodafone UK Chief Executive Officer, said: “We want our customers to stay connected to friends and family without worrying about running out of data or spending too much this festive season. We pledged earlier this year to take whatever spare capacity we had and make it available for customers and those most in need across the UK. What better time to do this for our customers than Christmas.”

The 30-days of free data is the latest of a number of initiatives from Vodafone to help keep people connected during these gruelling months. It joins Vodafone’s extended free data offer for NHS workers, which was recently extended until January 31 and the VOXI For Now tariff, which gives job seekers endless calls and data for £10 a month for six months and its schools.connected programme. The schools.connected programme helps pupils who struggle to access education from home because they don’t have the right connectivity. The programme, which originally offered connectivity to 250,000 primary and secondary school children has now been extended and is open to Further Education colleges.

Likewise, EE has also extended its offer for NHS and care workers, which was due to expire at the end of this year, until early 2021 as the number of cases of the coronavirus started to rise again in England, Scotland and Wales.
