Sky broadband customers could finally see much faster broadband speeds arriving into their homes thanks to the rollout of the firm’s new full-fibre connection. The satellite TV company has just confirmed that it is launching its Ultrafast broadband in more UK homes with over three million properties now able to access much quicker downloads.
Sky’s Ultrafast service offers speeds of around 145Mpbs which more than twice as fast as the current UK average.As an example, a 145Mbps connection would allow you to download a full HD movie in around 3 minutes – that’s compared to 10 minutes with 60Mbps speeds. Along with those improved downloads, there’s also better uploads as well with users getting an average speed of 27Mpbs when sending files across the web.
“Launching FTTP, the UK’s most advanced broadband technology, reflects Sky’s commitment to innovation and providing customers with the fastest and most reliable broadband possible”, said Aman Bhatti, Director of Propositions, Sky Broadband.
“This means, with Sky Broadband Ultrafast, we can offer our customers average speeds that are 12x faster than standard enabling customers to download, stream, browse, work from home and game freely.”

Of course, if you want a better connection you are going to have to pay a little more each month.
Sky’s current Superfast broadband, average speeds of 59Mbps, is available for £27 per month on an 18-month contract. If you want the Ultrafast speed boost, with those 145Mbps downloads, then you’ll need to pay £35 per month on an 18-month contract.
It is worth noting that not all homes are connected to Sky’s full-fibre service but the firm has said that it is adding 31,000 new homes are each week.That means Sky’s Ultrafast speeds should be available in 7.3 million households by March 2021.
One final thing to note before you sign up to Sky’s Ultrafast broadband is that rival firm’s including Virgin Media and BT are offering even quicker downloads.
Some BT and Virgin customers can now download files at around 1Gpbs – at that rapid rate, you’d be able to download a full HD movie in under 45 seconds.
BT and Virgin Media continue to increase the coverage of this blisteringly quick broadband although it is currently only available in a limited number of areas.
