The PS5 is currently the world’s most in-demand games console. The world’s PS5 shortage is mainly attributed to a shortage of the console’s chips, compounded by distribution and manufacturing problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic. So with stock almost non-existent, many PS5 gamers have been left frustrated for a long time.
This resulted in many gamers failing to land a PS5 in time for Christmas.
There were even some indications stock shortages were going to last far longer than feared.
Fortunately, this sad state of affairs could soon change, with more PS5 rumoured to be shortly arriving in the UK.
Twitter accounts dedicated to monitoring PS5 stock reports are claiming more Playstation 5 stock will arrive at many stores from today, Thursday, January 7.
Will GAME, Argos and Smyths restock PS5 this week?
Express.co.uk has this morning contacted GAME, Argos and Smyths and will update this article accordingly.
Smyths Toys on Monday, January 4, posted the announcement consoles were scheduled to arrive at some point this month.
However, there no indications high street staple Argos has any PS5s in stock.
A statement on Argos’ dedicated PS5 page states: “Sorry, PlayStation®5 is currently unavailable.
“We will not have any further stock for the rest of 2020.”
There is a faint glamour of hope, though, as with Argos stores – including those operating within a Sainsbury’s store – are continuing to operate for home delivery.
Because these operate a collection of pre-paid orders and returns, there is a possibility of restocks taking place very soon.
Both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition are unfortunately listed as out of stock at Game.
The computer game specialist also offers no indication concerning any PS5 restock dates.
With GAME stores shut due to Tier 5 coronavirus lockdown, learning more about the PS5 stock situation is difficult.
However, due to GAME’s position as one of the UK’s most popular PS5 retailers, the retailer will likely be one of the first outlets to receive new stock.
The Ps5Instant Twitter account stated more of the consoles will be arriving between today and January 12 at “most retailers”.
On Tuesday, January 5, they added: “Unfortunately due to Brexit a significant portion of EU firms cannot ship to us anymore due to VAT changes, alongside additional fees being charged for delivery. Please be aware of this for any EU PS5 stock posted.”
PS2-themed black PS5:
The good news is a black retro-themed PS5 console and DualSense controller will go on sale tomorrow, Friday, January 8.
The black PS5’s distinctly-retro design reflects the look of the legendary PS2, which remains the best-selling PlayStation console to date.
Production is also limited to just 304 units, which is said to be a throwback to when the PS2 was originally released: 03/04/00.
Ps5Instant Tweeted yesterday: “January 8th, 8pm UK time, limited edition Black PS5s are being released for pre-order.
“They will cost above RRP due to customisation. They ship to the UK, payment through PayPal & card.”
