If clicked on Google Drive users are directed to a document which has a large, tempting – and malicious – link.
E-mail notifications created for the scam also contain nefarious links which are key to the latest phishing scam.
WIRED said cyber crooks are working their way through a huge list of Gmail accounts to target G Drive users.
The scam was initially highlighted by Twitter user @JCyberSec_, an independent cybersecurity researcher who was targeted by the scam.
Jake said: “Emails are closely monitored and scanned by systems meaning a huge number of spam emails are detected before delivery.
“Threat actors are always attempting to find new delivery methods.”
