Gamers in the UK could get another chance at snapping up a next-gen console via new PS5 stock update coming in January.
While no major retailer has provided its plans for the new year, there are rumours that a restock is being planned early this month.
And if something is going to happen this week, we should hear more about it from leading retailers soon.
In the UK, this will mean checking for updates, via social media, from the likes of Argos, Very, GAME and Currys.
Smyths is another retailer worth checking, as its site confirms that a PS5 restock event is expected during January 2021.
It has been claimed that a new PS5 stock update is being planned in the UK by Thursday, January 7 2021, which could mean news being shared in the coming days.
However, if there are any delays (logistical or otherwise) to this rumoured PS5 shipment, then the restock could be delayed by a few days.
This could mean that the next PS5 stock will not be available to buy until the week of January 11.
However, until we hear more from those leading retailers, this all remains unverified and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Very has said they should be getting more PS5 stock “soon” while the ASDA Service Team Twitter account said they could have restock news in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Argos has said they are not expecting any more PS5 stock for the rest of 2020 while Currys and Amazon UK have all been unable to say when their next restock will be.
PlayStation 5 stock shortages are expected to continue into 2021, with the situation expected to level out before the end of the year.
But it appears that while there will be more PS5 consoles coming to the market, the opposite could be happening with PS4 consoles.
Retailers in Japan will reportedly stop offering several different PS4 consoles, which could point to Sony discontinuing different models.
Translations suggest that models, including PS4 500GB Glacier White, PS4 1TB Jet Black, and the PS4 1TB Glacier White, because:
“Due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.”
It should be noted that this news is only connected to certain types of PS4 consoles and doesn’t mean it will affect gamers in the UK.
It follows the news that Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Direct platform will stop selling certain items in North America.
The PlayStation Direct site currently lists the PS4 Pro as being out of stock but importantly also states that there are no plans to re-stock the model in the future.
It would make sense that the $400 model of last-gen tech would be discontinued with the PS5 selling so well.
Sony hasn’t provided any statement regarding the end of the PS4 Pro via PS Direct, but they have shared updates regarding PS5 sales, telling fans online:
“We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever.
“Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.”
