PlayStation Plus subscribers are counting down to the release of November’s excellent selection of free PS4 games.
After a slightly underwhelming batch of freebies in October, Sony is back on top form for the month of November.
First up is Lord of the Rings spinoff Middle-earth Shadow of War, which is joined by indie favourite Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition.
The new wave of PlayStation Plus free PS4 games have a November 3 release date exclusively for subscribers.
While there’s no set launch time, the new games will be available to download at around midday.
This means you still have just enough time to download the October 2020 free PS4 games, which include Vampyr and Need for Speed: Payback.
PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be able to download and play the PS5 version of Bugsnax at no extra cost, although not until the launch of the next-gen PlayStation on November 12 (or November 19 if you live in the UK).
Speaking of PS5, even more free games are available to PS Plus subscribers as part of the PlayStation Plus Collection.
Available at no extra cost to subscribers, the PlayStation Plus Collection features a whopping 20 PS4 games, which are all playable on the next-gen console.
This includes first-party games such as Bloodborne, Uncharted 4 and God of War, as well as third-party releases including Mortal Kombat X, Final Fantasy 15 and Fallout 4.
The games featured in the PlayStation Plus Collection will all take advantage of the PS5’s Game Boost function. This should result in faster loading times and more stable frame-rates.
Even if you aren’t planning on buying a PS5 at launch, November is shaping up to be a pretty outstanding month for free PS4 games.
Middle-earth Shadow of War has a Metacritic score of 80% on PS4, while Hollow Knight scores a whopping 90%.
“Set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth: Shadow of War beckons you once more into JRR Tolkien’s iconic world of wizards, orcs and elves,” reads the official description.
“Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses and dominate Mordor from within.
“Experience how the Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth.”
Hollow Knight, meanwhile, is one of many 2D platforming games to be compared to Dark Souls.
“In Team Cherry’s engrossing 2D explorative platformer, descend into a sprawling underground world of Hollownest to battle tainted creatures and befriend bizarre bugs.
“Unlock new skills and tailor your power sets to fit your playstyle to help you explore twisting caverns, ancient cities and deadly wastes. Uncover a kingdom’s ancient history, taking on epic bosses that’ll challenge your combat and platforming skills as you strive to solve the mysteries buried at its heart.”
