A vehicle the rapper was in was stopped in east London and its occupants searched
J Hus has been arrested and charged with carrying a knife.
The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Momodou Jallow, was in a vehicle that was stopped by police in Stratford, east London on Thursday (June 21). After the occupants of the vehicle was searched, he was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife or bladed article.
J Hus, who was nominated for three BRIT Awards and won Best Album at the VO5 NME Awards earlier this year, was denied bail at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday (June 22) and will remain in custody until his trial on July 20.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan police said: “Officers in a marked police car stopped a vehicle in International Way, E20, at about 12:35pm on Thursday 21 June. The occupants of the vehicle were searched and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife/bladed article.” The Met later confirmed to BBC Newsbeat the arrested man was J Hus.
The rapper is scheduled to perform at several festivals before his trial date, including Glasgow’s TRNSMT on June 30 and London’s Wireless on July 7. Representatives for J Hus have yet to comment on the situation.
Earlier this year, the MOBO award winner told NME he hoped to release the follow-up to his debut album ‘Common Sense’ by August. “I’m already working on a new album,” he said. “Hopefully we can release it for about August. I’m working on it, nearly done. Hopefully I can get Skepta on it.”
