George RR Martin may still be writing The Winds of Winter, but new versions of his A Song of Ice and Fire series have been published in the meantime for fans to enjoy. Now the 72-year-old has shared a sneak peek at A Storm of Swords: The Illustrated Edition. The book follows illustrated versions of A Game of Thrones and A Clash of King before it.
Martin announced on his blog: “On sale November 3 [November 12 in UK]
“Lavishly illustrated by the incredibly talented Gary Gianni and available now for pre-order.
“Here is a sneak peek at some of his work on this special edition of A STORM OF SWORDS, brought to you by Penguin Random House.”
Below, Martin showed off three famous scenes from what many fans consider to be his greatest book in A Song of Ice and Fire.

And thirdly, the showrunners felt that the Red Wedding was just so impactful in Game of Thrones, that it didn’t need it.
They added: “Catelyn’s last moment was so fantastic, and Michelle is such a great actress, to bring her back as a zombie who doesn’t speak felt like diminishing returns.”
Last year, Martin told ET he would have liked to have seen Lady Stoneheart in Game of Thrones as he has big plans for her in The Winds of Winter.
The author said: “Lady Stoneheart. Certainly, in the book I’m writing now that’s an important thread. But as you say, there’s so much there.”
Martin added: “Even with a novel of ordinary size when you adapt it for television or film, it usually involves cutting and simplifying.
“And my books are not books of ordinary length. I mean even A Game of Thrones, which is the smallest of them, is like four regular novels.
“So, there was a lot to do. If we’d included everything in the books, we’d still be on season 1; would have been an eight-year-long season 1.”
George RR Martin currently hopes that The Winds of Winter will be published in 2021.
