A big mid-season update is launching this week in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, with Treyarch confirming when we can expect things to arrive in multiplayer and Zombies mode.

As confirmed earlier this month, today’s Cold War update will offer new content across the game.

Zombies mode is getting Cranked, a new mode which changes up the tried and tested formula on the Die Maschine map.

The usual setup includes a round-based Zombies experience, where up to four players can drop into a map made as a homage to the original World at War experience.

Cranked changes all this by adding a timer, and once the first zombie hits the floor, the Cranked Timer starts ticking away.

Your Operator will explode if they fail to kill another zombie before the timer hits zero, and the timer gets shorter and shorter as the game progresses.

There is also a Cranked Timer Power-up, which temporarily freezes the timer for all players, as well as a ping system for gamers to use.

Another mode is also being updated in Zombies, but only for those gamers on PS4 and PS5.

Onslaught is a two-player Zombies experience which can be played across Black Ops Cold War’s Multiplayer maps.

In this mode, your duo will use whatever is in your loadouts to fight against hyper-aggressive waves of undead forces. Unlike in traditional round-based Zombies, a Dark Aether Orb will confine you to a specific space on the map until it is charged by the souls of the undead.

A message from Treyarch reveals that Zombies Onslaught will get a new map with Raid, along with new Dark Aether intel to discover.

WHEN IS THE COLD WAR MID-SEASON UPDATE COMING OUT?

According to the development team at Treyarch, the Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War update time for January 14 has been set for 6pm GMT, or 10am PDT, if you live in the United States.

There will be a playlist patch released as part of today’s update, with changes also expected in Warzone.

It’s unclear what exactly will be added or disappearing in Warzone but it could include changes to squad sizes in Plunder, Resurgence and Rebirth Modes.

More news is expected to be shared by Treyarch and Raven Software after the new patch has gone live.

This is what we know is going to be playable this week as part of the new mid-season update in Cold War:

  • New MP map: Sanatorium
  • New MP mode: Dropkick
  • New Zombies mode: Cranked
  • New Zombies Onslaught map + intel: Raid
  • New weapon: Wakizashi sword
  • Sanatorium 24/7
  • Zombies Free Access Week

Here’s what we know about this week’s Black Ops update and what to expect in terms of content changes:

“Season One gets even bigger with new content in Multiplayer and Zombies. Get ready to drop into a massive new Fireteam map with your squad in Sanatorium, and fight for control of the nuclear codes in the all-new 6v6 MP mode, Dropkick.

“Get ready for a massive new arena when your squad drops into Sanatorium, a low-wooded hills area where your team will unearth the clandestine secrets of Project Golova. Jump into a fleet of land, sea, and air vehicles and take the fight to the enemy in this sprawling new map.

“Also coming with this update for Multiplayer is a brand-new 6v6 mode Dropkick, a frantic game of hot potato where two squads battle for control of a briefcase containing nuclear codes. Be the first team to score 200 points and set off an explosive ending.

“Get ready for the Disavowed Assassin to be released in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on Jan. 14.

“This five-item bundle contains three Legendary items: a unique melee weapon Blueprint, a killer Operator Skin, and a dangerous Finishing Move known as the “Dangerous Approach.” It also includes an Epic Emblem and Calling Card.”
