Gamers can download a number of games this week without needing to spend a penny past having access to Xbox Live and PlayStation multiplayer services.
The list continues to grow, and there are plenty of different titles you can find on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store to enjoy at no extra charge.
Depending on what genre of game you enjoy and what upgrades you’re looking for, it’s worth checking out your options before taking the time to download and install the latest games.
And as always, it’s worth keeping an eye on the latest releases, as new ones are added to the list all the time.
We aren’t expecting a huge surge in options before the end of the year but there are plenty of free games across both PS5 and Xbox Series X to give you a robust choice.
Here’s a few worth checking out, some of which contain next-gen upgrades, while others remain the same:
WARFRAME – PS5 NEXT-GEN
While available to play on both PS5 and Xbox One, the Sony version comes with notable upgrades. And the good news is that there upgrades will be coming to Xbox Series X in the future.

“Our journey begins on PlayStation 5 later this year, and we’ll have more information to share about the Xbox Series X very soon.”
FORTNITE – NEXT GEN UPGRADES
Fortnite is an early adopter of the next-gen consoles and includes some notable upgrades in the FPS department.
With the release of Fortnite v15.10, we’ve added 120 FPS support in Battle Royale/Creative modes on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S!
To play Battle Royale/Creative at 120 FPS on these new platforms, enter the Fortnite Video settings and toggle on “120 FPS Mode.” In order to achieve a consistent 120 FPS, max resolution on Xbox Series X and PS5 is lowered from 4K to 1440p in this mode. Shadow settings, postprocessing, and streaming distances are slightly reduced, but volumetric clouds, physical rim lighting, and high-quality shaders remain enabled.
Fortnite players on Xbox Series S can turn on “120 FPS Mode” at 1080p resolution. (If 120 FPS Mode is turned off, the maximum resolution has been boosted from 1080p to 1200p in all game modes.) In 120 FPS Mode on Xbox Series S, shadow resolution and other settings are reduced and volumetric clouds are disabled.
Please note that players must have a display supporting 120Hz refresh rate to enable 120 FPS Mode. If you’re playing on Xbox Series X|S, make sure 120Hz is turned on in your console’s display settings.
ROCKET LEAGUE – NEXT-GEN UPGRADES
Rocket League is a game that only recently went free-to-play is now available to download across most platforms.
The game provides next-gen upgrades for both the Xbox Series X and PS5, although they are not the same.
Xbox Series X runs Rocket League at 4K resolution at 60 FPS with HDR.
The PS5 runs Rocket League 4K Resolution (checkerboard) at 60 FPS with High Dynamic Range (HDR).
CALL OF DUTY WARZONE – XBOX SERIES X UPGRADE
Warzone remains a popular game that recently received a massive update in content as part of its integration with Black Ops Cold War.
There are new weapons to wield in Verdansk, while a whole new map has been added named Rebirth Island.
The new map is set at a faster pace and takes a lot less time to play, especially if you drop straight in and your whole team is eliminated.
The rules are a little different, as you get to respawn as long as one of your teammates remains alive during a countdown timer.
It’s been reported that Warzone can run at 120FPS on the Xbox Series X, an option that isn’t available on PS5.
